With the rising number of dengue cases everyday in the country, Dengue fever has become a matter of concern these days but it is very important to understand the various aspects of Dengue in order to protect you from Dengue. Knowing about the causes, symptoms and prevention of Dengue fever could certainly help to protect you from this viral fever which is spreading very fast at present.

Let us discuss about the causes, symptoms and prevention of Dengue in brief to understand the facts about Dengue fever.

Causes of Dengue:

Dengue fever is an infectious type of fever that causes due to dengue virus. Dengue is transmitted by mosquitoes of genus Aedes, which injects the virus to the body of an individual that leading to Dengue. There are four closely related virus of the same genus responsible for causing and each having different degree of severity.

Symptoms of Dengue:

The major symptoms of Dengue ranges from fever, headache, muscle and joint pains to life-threatening dengue hemorrhagic fever, resulting in bleeding, low levels of blood platelets and blood plasma leakage, or into dengue shock syndrome, which leads to significant low blood pressure. In addition to that, Dengue can also result in eye pain, anorexia, gastrointestinal disturbances and rash.

Prevention of Dengue:

As discussed earlier, Dengue is a viral disease and hence, no exact cure is still available for the disease, which leaves us with the only option of taking preventive measures to avoid the occurrence of the disease. By keeping in mind certain points, you can reduce the risk of getting affected with Dengue.

The first and foremost thing that we should learn in order to prevent Dengue is to control and prevent the transmission of Dengue virus by prohibiting the spread of vector mosquitoes responsible for transmission. Some of the protective measures to reduce the spread of vector mosquitoes are:

Wear long pants and long sleeves to avoid mosquito biting if you are visiting a dengue endemic area. Moreover, you can also apply some mosquito repellant sprays that contain DEET to protect yourself from being a victim of Dengue.

Vector control can also be implemented using various environmental management and chemical methods like solid waste disposal, elimination of sluggish water in domestic environment and improved water storage practices.

Using mosquito coil and electric mosquito mat or liquidators should be placed near possible entrance, such as window, for mosquito.
