Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika brings Chennai express to ramp for Manish Malhotra

New Delhi, Mon, 05 Aug 2013 Amit Kumar

Expectations were high among the visitors on the last day of PCJ Delhi Couture Week 2013 as the five day fashion extravaganza was to be concluded with the showcase of ace designer Manish Malhotra's collection.

The excitement was more of the showstoppers as Manish has been always known for bringing superstars to ramp as his showstoppers and once again he kept his trend alive when Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and actress Deepika Padukone dazzled the ramp to leave the spectators ablaze.

Shah Rukh entered the ramp in style in a three-layer tuxedo, while Deepika looked stunning in a royal blue lehenga teamed with -sleeved blouse and a beautiful kundan necklace. Both the actors will be seen together n their upcoming film 'Chennai Express', which is t be released this Friday.

"I was expecting something wondrous tonight as it was a Manish Malhotra Show. This was the best way to end Delhi Couture Week with Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone on the ramp. Besides Manish Malhotra's astonishing collections, Shah Rukh and Deepika were a treat for us. Thanks to Manish..," said a guest after the show.

Manish Malotra presented the cros-cultural ties of 1930's in his collection which represented the kings, queens, princes and princesses of that time.

"In the 1930's India was a country trying to find her voice. It was the age of opulence, and of affluence. Even as Viceroys conducted matters of state, Kings, queens, princes and princesses ruled over their own domain. The cross-cultural ties created a very unique genre of fashion and culture, which I am very inspired by. Whether in the fabrics royalty and the ruling class favored, or in the silhouettes they wore, or in the architecture, and the art, there was a cross-pollination at work. While designing this collection, I could imagine a maharani, dresses in a layered lehenga-ensmbled, which was embellished with antique gold, and wearing heirloom jewellery, walking down a corridor with her entourage, to meet the viceroy in his regalia. Their conversations, conducted through a screen, echoed in my mind," said Manish about his collection.
