Cast of Satyagraha: Amitabh Bachchan (as Dwarka Anand), Ajay Devgn (as Manav Raghvendra), Kareena Kapoor (as Yasmin Ahmed), Arjun Rampal (as Arjun), Manoj Bajpai (as Balram Singh), Amrita Rao (as Sumitra)
"This time director Prakash Jha has failed to hit the eye of the bird. Satyagraha though based on a serious issue of increasing corruption in the society fails to cover every aspect and does not give an answer at the end".
Story:
Dwarka Anand is an idealistic person who has lived his entire life by principle and standing for what is right. He thinks society can change if every individual changes himself/herself.
Dwarka's son Akhilesh is friend with Manav Raghvendra who believes that money is the ultimate price and nobody cares how you get it. When Manav visits Akhilesh's house, he and Dwarka has a heated conversation on ideology.
However, everything is going well until the accidental death of Akhilesh. A local minister announces a compensation for Akhilesh’s wife Sumitra, which she is unable to procure even after innumerable trips of the local office.
Frustrated by the corruption Dwarka slaps the collector and eventually is thrown in jail. This changes everything. Manav who came back just hearing the news of his best friend has a moral uprising and comes to terms that he was wrong the whole time.
He along with Arjun, journalist Yasmin Ahmed trigger off a campaign against corruption.
MLA and State Home Minister Balram Singh does whatever he can to stop the uprising as he fears this can snatch his seat for which he has worked so hard.
Review:
Director Prakash Jha has continued the stint of Gangaajal, Apaharan, Raajneeti and Aarakshan, taking a current social issue and making a film around it. However, this time he has indulged a lot of small issues inside one film at the end film fails to give answer to all of them.
Prakash has tried hard to portray the real time events exactly but sometimes they are overdone.
Without doubt Amitabh overshadows Ajay Devgn, Kareena and Manoj. When he delivers a dialogue, he is amazing when he remains silent he is tremendous.
Ajay has also played his part well. It is hard to digest Kareena as reporter. Arjun and Amrita have not much to do.
But it is Manoj Bajpai who steals the show.
