Fake video infuriates Bachchan

New Delhi, Thu, 22 Aug 2013 Deepak Kumar Mohanty

Hindi film superstar Amitabh Bachchan seems very much angered with the fact that a fake is video on YouTube is playing all around suggesting the actors motive of endorsing Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for the upcoming 2014 general election. The actor has so far made it clear that he did not endorse Modi and the video is all fake.

Bachchan in his blog said that in the year 2007, he did a 'Lead India' campaign for the The Times of India, where he talked about the glorification of the country and somebody had made a fake video by using his voice and text of that original video, and falsely and mischievously, interspersed it with visuals which indicated a campaign for the promotion of the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi.

Many followers of Mr. Bachchan (@SrBachchan) have also posted their angered response on twitter. The official twitter handler of Narendra Modi has too responded by tweeting: "Agree with @SrBachchan. The author of the fake video should take action immediately and apologize to Amitabh ji."

Soon after the video has been reported to YouTube with its falsify motives, the website has made it unavailable for viewers. However, there is another version of the same video in which it is compared with the original one, which might also be removed later. Till then, you may watch it here.

There are numerous Modi supporters who might argue that there is nothing wrong in promoting Modi's image but this is an act of copyright infringement and above all this also fallaciously suggests the intent of a public figure. Bachchan might have a very cordial relation with Modi, as the superstar is the brand ambassador of Gujarat, but a public figure he certainly would not like to endorse Modi for his political gain, for obvious reasons that might upset Bachchan's fans.

Nevertheless, as the 2014 Lok Sabha election campaign is pitching up with news and stories from each and every individual, such online campaigns do have the potential to leave negative impression about any particular personality, here in this case Mr. Bachchan. However, there is nothing wrong to create an original video on any personality of your likings and promote or endorse his or her cause on a public forum.
