From the time Mahendra Singh Dhoni has become captain of Indian team there had been very few series that he has missed. Gautam Gambhir lead India in a series against New Zealand in 2010 and Suresh Raina was the captain of the Indian team that toured West Indies in 2011 and Zimbabwe in 2010.
Now it’s the turn of young Virat Kohli (24) to lead a 15-member Indian squad for the tour of Zimbabwe. Dhoni has been rested b y the national selectors to give him some respite from international cricket.
India will play 5 One-Day Internationals over the 11-day tour, starting July 24. The team left for the tour on Sunday morning.
This team is a young team with the most experienced player being Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma.
Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar and spinner Ravichandran Ashwin have been rested and are replaced by some new faces all-rounder Parvez Rasool of Jammu and Kashmir and fast bowler Mohit Sharma.
Zimbabwe is a weak team but when Raina led the side to Zimbabwe in a tri-series in 2010, India failed to reach the final. This time it will not only test the character of Kohli but also his temper and patience.
