Wimbledon's fifth day came with a mixed response for Indian side as Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek won to enter the second round of men's double, while Mahesh Bhupathi and Daniels Hantuchova duo were knocked out from the tournament with loss.
Paes and Stepanek won 7-6 (6) 6-4, 6-7 (1), 6-4 in three hours and five minutes against the Italian-Israeli pair Daniele Bracciali and Jonathan Erlich in the match which was stretched o the second day. The fourth seed Indo-Czech duo had a tuff time and will have to work hard in the second round which will be played against local guy Jamie Delgado and Australian Matthew Ebden.
However, in mixed doubles, it was not a good day in office for Bhupathi and his Slovakian partner Hantuchova as even getting a good start against Mark Knowles of Bahamas and Sabine Lisicki of Germany in the first set which went into a tie-breaker 7-6 (2), they lost the next two sets by 4-6, 4-6.
In the meanwhile, Bhupathi's hopes at Wimbledon are still alive as he has proceeded to the second round of the men’s doubles with Austrian partner Julian Knowle. They will now fight against the pair of American Nicholas Monroe and Simon Stadler of Germany.
