Cast: Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor, Abhay Deol, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Swara Bhaskar
Director: Aanand Rai
Directed by Aanand Rai, the much awaited movie of the month "Raanjhanaa", starring Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol has hit the cinema hall this Friday with its release.
But this time you are unlikely to see the conventional Bollywood romance that follows pissing the women off with heroic acts, rather Raanjhanaa is a bit different or you can say director Anand Raj has tried to bring out a different approach (or you can say 'tapori' style) that works here.
The film starts with two characters Kundan (Dhanush) and Zoya (Sonam) from the city of Banaras, where Kundan is obsessed in the love of Zoya, who tries every way to make her fall in love with him. He follows her to the school, in rickshaw and every possible place. He also plants a kiss on her cheek, for which he g ets a slap but never mind he keeps getting slaps due to his acts.
After that, Zoya leaves for Delhi to pursue her further studies in leaving Kundan alone but the story takes a twist when Zoya returns to Banaras once again and this time she falls in love too but not with Kundan but Akram (Abhay Deol), who plays a student union leader from JNU and is Zoya's classmate.
The second half of the film gets a bit weak as it shows more of protests and tries to project some of the recent protests against gang rape, corruption held in Delhi.
But still, if we talk about the performances Dhanush is effortless and brilliant and Sonam as Zoya is this time really appreciable. From playing a school girl with innocence to her transformation to a mature and serious character, she has managed it brilliantly.
Overall, Raanjhanaa is the movie of the year with a difference where you will see some great performances along with good story. So, watch out Raanjhanaa for Dhanush and Sonam.
