If you believe in witchcraft, black magic, occults and other supernatural things, this is the movie for you. Kannan Iyer directorial Ek thi Daayan starring Emraan Hashmi, Konkana Sen Sharma, Huma Qureshi and Kalki Koechlin in the lead roles has hit the cinema halls this Friday on April 19 with a paranormal concept of witches (Daayan) to chill the viewers this summer.
Ek thi Daayan is the story of Bobo (Emraan Hashmi), a famous Indian magician quite successful in his career but had a dark and spooky childhood. Bobo grows up reading stories of witches and witchcraft and unknowingly his fascination towards occults turns into obsession. Things got worst when Bobo’s widower father marries again to a lady Diana ( Konkana Sen Sharma). Bobo consider his step-mother a daayan(witch).
The story has been articulated beautifully in major parts that will leave you nail biting with a spine chilling blend of black magic, occult and suspense. You will also find some great romantic sequences in the film that is a trademark of Emraan.
Moreover, the most horrifying part of the movie is the climax, though little stereotype but still cleverly represented.
But just when you start to relax and flow with the emotions, along comes a scary twist that jolts you back to the edge of your seat. The climax is a bit stereotype of horror/supernatural thrillers but that's a minor hiccup in an otherwise cleverly done film of this genre.
Emraan Hashmi is excellent in his part and marks his strong presence instead of three female actresses in the film. Konkona Sen Sharma is as usual amazing and superb as a Daayan. Kalki Koechlin has also justified her role beautifully. Huma Qureshi is ok but still needs improvement.
So, watch out Ek thi Daayan to thrill yourself with some supernatural and paranormal activities that will certainly help you create your own insight whether Daayan exists or its just an illusion.
