A crude bomb exploded on Monday outside the hotel in Dhaka where Indian President Pranab Mukherjee is staying during his 3-day visit to Bangladesh.
No one was injured. Describing it as a "minor explosion", Indian officials here said this was a common occurrence during hartals or strikes.
While police have denied any reports of a bomb explosion, officials said a small cocktail bomb was flung by two motorcycle borne men outside the Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon.
"It was a crude bomb, more like a petrol bomb. We are trying to confirm it," said sources.
Mukherjee, who is on a three-day visit here and returns home Tuesday night, was inside the Sonargaon hotel when the incident took place in the afternoon. He had returned for lunch after the convocation ceremony at Dhaka University.
The Jamaat-e-Islami is observing a two-day strike to protest the death sentence of its leader. Clashes between Jamaat members and police have led to over 70 deaths in the past few days.
