Health Minister Dr. A.K. Walia has stated that East Delhi would soon become a hub of quality health services as Rajiv Gandhi Super-speciality Hospital at Tahirpur would fully become functional in order to provide specialized healthcare services to the people of Delhi and the patients coming from other neighbouring states. He expressed these views in a function organized at Delhi State Cancer Institute (DSCI).
Dr. Walia stated that the DSCI has been catering to the needs of more than 10,000 new patients every year. The institute has been able to earn the NABH accreditation in shortest duration. The government is keen to develop it as an internationally fame cancer institute. The city government has given its nod for installing the latest protone-therapy accelerator costing 400 cr.
Dr. Walia added that there would be no dearth of funds for expansion of facilities and addition of the latest cancer related equipments. It would have the new facilities like surgical, HDR Brachytherapy, ICU, Bone Marrow Transplant very soon.
While commending the commitment of the doctors and technicians in the institute, Dr. Walia stated that the Institute has also been catering to the needs of around 60% patients coming from outside Delhi. In addition to this, the Institute has been striving hard to examine each and every patient coming in the institute every day.
Dr. Walia added that the disease is one of the dreaded of the present times though it has become curable in case the treatment gets started at initial stage. He exhorted the people to rush for treatment immediately after coming to know certain symptoms. The important requirement for cure from cancer is early diagnosis and prompt treatment.
Dr. Walia also stated that the Health Department has decided to expand the wings of DSCI to ensure its reach at the doorsteps of the people in the Capital city. One of its branches will soon be commissioned at Janakpuri whereas two other branches would be opened in North and South districts. Further, the government would also ensure allotment of additional land for DSCI to enable it to make space for more wards and operation theatres.
