World Cancer Day 2013:Yuvraj asks cancer patients to fight courageously

Marking the World Cancer Day, Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who had suffered lung cancer last year, but successful won the battle, Monday asked to cancer victims to fight with courage to this fatal disease.

Known as a fighter, Yuvraj recalled his successful battle with cancer on Monday and asked cancer patents to fight out with strength and courage for their survival.

"Today is about survivorship, strength and courage, people who are going through it, today is about letting your demons out, understanding your health, understand strength and courage to lot of people out there, I don't how many people are watching this but it is about Yuvi can, you can, we can, it is easiest said and done but it has been a long journey and a year back, I was saying I don't have cancer," Yuvraj said.

The Indian star batsman was diagnosed with a seminoma cancer, and had undergone Chemotherapy in the United States of America.

The 30-year-old southpaw, the architect of India's 2011 World Cup victory, initially denied surgery and insisted on medication for an ailment without disclosing its exact nature.

Yuvraj was the player of the tournament in the 2011 One-Day International World Cup, which India won after a gap of 28 years.

With tears rolling in eyes, he said that he had to go through several tests and treatments during his illness.

"As things go by, you realize that it can happen to you because more than a million people get diagnosed every year. We don't know the reasons, there was no reason behind my cancer but the point is that I had it and I had to go through several tests, had to go through several treatments and I was feeling that life might come to an end," Yuvraj said.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, the country's apex biomedical research body, cancer is spreading at an alarming rate in India and currently more than 2500000 people are suffering from this deadly disease.
