Good news for all those fans of Kamal Haasan in Tamil Nadu, ban imposed by the court on the release of his film Vishwaroopam has been lifted and film is set to release in theatres of Tamil Nadu this Friday.
Muslim organizations and Kamal Haasan has called a truce over the film. A meeting was held by Kamal with Muslim groups on Saturday to end the ban on his mega-budget multilingual film in the presence of Tamil Nadu Home Secretary R. Rajagopal.
A government source said, "The two-week ban imposed by the district collector has been removed here, paving way to a successful release of the film across Tamil Nadu".
Kamal has agreed to edit seven scenes from his film.
He will also withdraw his petition from Madras High Court today.
Vishwaroopam is made on a budget of Rs.95 crore and was initially set to release on Jan 25 in Tamil Nadu. However a two-week ban on the film was imposed on it after the Muslim groups of the state protested saying that some part of the film portray their community in the wrong way.
Kamal had previously said that this band has cost him around Rs. 30-60 crore.
Hindi version of Vishwaroopam was released on Feb 1 across the country. It earned Rs 1.89 crore on the opening day in North India. It has done well outside India as well. It earned Rs 4.05 crores in USA and 1.64 crores in UK.
