Publicist of Penelope Cruz, Javier Giner announced the news of her pregnancy on Tuesday.
Spanish actress later took to tweeter to confirm her pregnancy new. Penelope is pregnant with her second child.
Penelope (38) and her husband Javier Bardem (43) have a son named Leonardo, who was born in January 2011 at the Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.
The pair got married in July 2010 in The Bahamas.
Cruz, who was nominated for a Goya - Spain's equivalent of the Oscar - for her performance in "Volver a nacer", will not be able to attend Sunday's gala in Madrid due to a scheduling conflict, Giner said.
Penelope was expected to travel to Spain on February 17 but she won't be able to take a long haul flight, Giner added.
Monica Cruz, the actress's younger sister, announced her own pregnancy by artificial insemination earlier this year.
