Hockey India on Wednesday announced its 18 member Junior Men National Team for the upcoming Hero Hockey Junior Men World Cup 2013 at Hotel Lalit in New Delhi.
Midfielder Manpreet Singh has been named as the Captain of the team while defender Amit Rohidas will be the Vice-Captain.
Hockey India Secretary General Dr. Narinder Batra said, "Our Junior team has been training hard to reach the pinnacle during the forthcoming Junior Men World Cup. Winning the Sultan of Johar Cup and subsequent exposure during the Asian Champions Trophy were steps in right direction for the preparations. I wish each and every player and support staff all the very best".
Foreign Coach of the Junior Men Hockey Team Gregg Clarke said with one week left to the start of the Junior World Cup, the team and all its support staff are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the World’s best junior players in India.
"Playing a World Cup at home will be a memorable occasion for the players. We have prepared well and look forward taking on the World’s best" he said.
All the teams participating in Hockey Junior Men World Cup 2013 have been divided into four teams. They will play pool matches followed by quarter-finals, semi-finals, classification and medal matches.
India has been placed in Pool C with The Netherlands, Korea and Canada.
Pool A will feature Germany, Pakistan, Belgium and Egypt, while Australia, Spain, Argentina and France are competing in Pool B.
England, New Zealand, South Africa and Malaysia going head to head in Pool D.
India will open its campaign against Netherlands on 6 December 2013 followed by Canada on 7 December 2013 and Korea on 10 December 2013.
India had won the title of the Junior Men World Cup in 2001 when they defeated Argentina in the final held in Australia.
All the matches will be telecasted live on Ten Sports.
