Pakistan Supreme Court Tuesday ordered an arrest to Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf to be indulged in graft charges in the Rental Power Plants case, according to reports.
The court also ordered all other respondents in the case to be arrested.
Ashraf was given the title of Raja Rental after he was accused of receiving kickbacks in the rental power projects. He was also accused of buying property in London from money earned through corruption in various scams, reports The Express Tribune.
He has been defending himself in the Supreme Court.
The court also ordered to arrest other 16 accused involved in this case and to produced before it later Tuesday, Online new agency reported citing TV reports.
Earlier Tuesday, the apex court said Pakistan's general elections, due later this year, will be held on time, and the Election Commission should be ready for it.
Hearing a case related to reforms in the election process, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said the elections couldn't be delayed, Geo News reported.
Chief Justice Chaudhry remarked that the elections would be held on time no matter what. No compromise would be acceptable, he added.
On March 30, the apex court had directed the National Accountability Bureau to proceed against those who were in the post of minister for water and power from 2006 till the next general elections. As a result, on April 20, NAB issued arrest warrants for 33 persons, including Ashraf.
