'Star' Pietersen ruled out of England-Kiwi Test series due to knee injury

Sydney, Apr 17 (ANI): England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that star batsman Kevin Pietersen has been ruled out of the upcoming home Investec Test series with New Zealand due to a persistent knee injury.

Although Pietersen had already been ruled out of the final Test match against the Kiwis due to the persistent problem in his right knee after bruising his bone, he was originally expected to miss six to eight weeks but now has been discounted from the two-match series, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

The ECB further stated that the player will have a repeat scan sometime next week to determine when he is able to resume training.

According to the report, the Surrey and Delhi Daredevils right-hander first suffered pain in his knee during a warm-up game in New Zealand before the drawn away Test series in March following which he was withdrawn from the 2013 Indian Premier League season.

Pietersen only returned to the England fold in October after being cast into international exile last August after sending text messages to touring South African players criticising then England captain Andrew Strauss, the report added. (ANI)
