Vishwaroopam row: Jayalalithaa clarifies ban, threatens to sue Karunanidhi

Chennai , Thu, 31 Jan 2013 ANI

Chennai, Jan. 31 (ANI): Citing that the decision to ban Kamal Haasan's film 'Vishwaroopam' was a necessary measure to maintain law, order and public peace in the given circumstances, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Thursday rejected all allegations levelled against her, saying she has no personal enmity with the veteran actor.

Clarifying and defending the government's decision to ban the film following a demand from the various Muslim organisations, Jayalalithaa also threatened DMK chief M Karunanidhi with legal action for issuing reckless statements and wild charges.

"Various reckless and wild charges have been made by certain personalities and certain sections of the media. Many discussions and criticisms have taken place; many comments have been made without understanding the situation properly. That's why I thought to clarify the misconception about the ban of the film 'Vishwaroopam'," said Jayalalithaa.

"As the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, my first and foremost duty is to maintain law and order in the state. Overruling the memorandum submitted by various Muslim groups and organisations and their ire against the film. It was practically not possible to provide protection to all 524 theatres, where the film was scheduled to release on January 25," she added.

She also assured that the government would do the needful if Kamal Haasan and Muslim organisations come to an amicable solution.

Rubbishing speculations of certain media that her government has banned the film since Vishwaroopam wasn't sold to Jaya TV, she said that these are absolutely false allegations as she has nothing to do with Jaya TV. (ANI)
