Dantewada (Chhattisgarh)/ Simdega (Jharkhand), Jan 20 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Police arrested a chemist shop owner and two Maoist sympathisers in Dantewada district on Wednesday.
According to senior police officials the chemist had been providing drugs and medicinal equipments to Maoists.
S.R.P Kalluri, Senior Superintendent of Police has said that the chemist and sympathisers were arrested during an operation on the previous night.
"At least five villagers of Mudhuvendi village came to buy medicines with rupees 30,000 and this time we followed them at night and arrested them. We could arrest only two, the rest three managed to escape and we have interrogated them," Kalluri added.
However, Arjun, the arrested chemist said that he was threatened by the Maoists to supply them with medicines or else face dire consequences.
"Earlier, we didn't have instructions from police, so anybody bought medicines worth rupees one to two thousand and later when we got instructions we stopped the selling of medicines to them. But then we received threatening letters from them (Maoists) that our families would be killed if we didn't supply them with medicines," he added.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand Police arrested a hardcore Maoist leader on Wednesday.
"A hardcore Maoist, area commander and sub-zonal member, Niranjan Oraon alias Neeraj has been arrested. A cache of arms and explosives has been recovered from him, other than the Maoist literature," Anup Birthare, Superintendent of Police
According to police officials the arrested Maoist leader was planning a major attack. (ANI)
