"There are estimated 45 million patients of Coronary artery disease in India. One fifth of the deaths in India are from coronary heart disease," said Dr. K K Aggrawal, President Heart Care Foundation at Press Interaction and Seminar on World Heart Day here on Friday.
"An increasing number of young Indian are falling prey to coronary artery diseases," he added in his presidential address while speaking the topic of "Cardiac Diseases prevention by Healthy Life Style" organized by Delhi Medical Association (DMA) on the on 28th September at DMA House, Daryaganj, New Delhi.
With millions hooked to a roller-coaster lifestyle, the future looks even more grim," he added.
He pointed out the sedentary life style and sluggishness are making more heart patients and the future of India looks grim.
Senior Cardiologist and President of DMA Dr. Harish Gupta said that 90% of the heart attacks can be prevented by controlling only nine predictable risk factors they are: smoking, dyslipidemia, hypertension, diabetes, abdominal obesity, psychosocial factors, regular alchohol consumption, lack of adequate fruits and vegetables in diet and sedentary lifestyle.
The programme was well attended by more than 200 eminent doctors.
