Two more unregistered pilgrims died on Wednesday in the way of Amarnath Yatra route due to cardiac arrest raising the number to eight. The official sources say, 'this is happening due to rising numbers of unregistered pilgrims as the number has suddenly risen that crated chaos.'
The rescue team has recovered a dead body of an unidentified person on Wednesday.
According to the official, the unregistered pilgrims come with the deliberate intention to make the yatra without a requisite permit. The record of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) shows over 31,000 pilgrims visiting the shrine but the police records show the double figure.
The cave shrine is situated at a height feet 3,888 meters above sea level. It has two routes leading to it – first from Balta route, situated at North Kashmir and second the traditional route of Pahalgam, which is situated at South Kashmir and have long route.
The pilgrims now prefers to shorter route.
The pilgrimage which began from June 25, will continue till Aug 2.
An ice lingam or a naturally made stalagmite of snow considered as an icon of Hindu god Shiva is the main attraction of the cave shrine.
