Government will facilitate Milk to unreserved localities: Dikshit

Delhi Government has decided to offer assistance in extension of Delhi Milk Scheme's products reach in the Capital City. This was decided in a meeting presided over by the Chief Minister Smt. Dikshit.

It was stated by the DMS that their capacity to produce milk is of five lakh litre milk per day whereas it is presently producing only three lakh litre. Further the reach of DMS milk supply is only limited to old localities and its supply is not available in new colonies such as Rohini, Dwarka, Cooperative Group Housing Societies, Slums and JJ and unauthorized colonies. A major portion of population belonging to weaker sections and middle-income group is presently deprived of quality milk being supplied by DMS at reasonable rates. The DMS further stated that it is capable to produce another two lakh litre per day provided the City Government facilitates in extension of its reach in respect of supply of milk in un served localities.

Dikshit assured of her Government's cooperation in this regard. The Government has decided to involve Registrar Co op. Societies, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board, PWD and Deptt. of Food Supplies to chalk out a programme to increase the reach of the DMS. The DMS is ready with large number of pota cabins to be installed at Convenient places to start milk supply immediately. Smt. Dikshit instructed the Commissioner, Food & Supplies to come out with an advertisement calling for interesting individuals for distribution of the milk during morning and evening hours. The DMS gives a commissioning of 90 paise on sale of a liter of milk through its existing 600 booths. The DMS has been also selling other milk products like curd, ghee, flavored milk, cheese and butter.
