Delhi Daredevils beats Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 5

Delhi Daredevils started their IPL 5 campaign with a comprehensive win of 8 wickets over Kolkata Knight riders. The second match of Indian Premier League played in Eden Gardens, home ground of KKR was delayed by two and a half hour due to rain. The match was then curtailed to 12-overs-a-side.

After loosing the toss KKR was put to bat first. They lost their top order batsmen in quick succession and were 31 for four by the end of fourth over. South African speedster Morne Morkel struck hard by taking 3 key wickets of KKR and was equally supported by Umesh Yadav and Roelof van der Merwe who bagged two wickets apiece. With some good performance in the middle order by DB Das (18 runs in 9 balls) and LR Shukla (26 of 17 balls), KKR put a respectable score of 97 at a loss of 9 wickets.

Openers of Daredevils Aaron Finch (30 from 27 balls) and Sehwag (20 off 13) gave them quite the start they wanted by putting on 49 runs for the opening wicket.

Later, Man of the match Irfan Pathan sealed the deal by scoring 42 runs in just 20 balls. He struck 3 sixes and 2 fours in his innings to help Delhi in an 8 wicket win over host team.

Earlier in the match, Morkel took the middle stump of compatriot Kallis with a toe-crushing yorker and bowled Manoj Tiwary in a similar fashion in the very next ball.
