Renowned US Singer Whitney Houston dies at age 48

Famous Singer, Actress, Model, Producer and Guinness Book of World Records holder for winning highest number of awards Whitney Houston was found dead on February 11 on the fourth floor of the Beverly Hilton hotel, California, USA at 15:55 pm (23:55 GMT), where she was staying as a guest, the BBC reported, according to BBC report. She was 48.

Houston was one of the most celebrated and most award winner female singers of all time who had won a total of 415 career awards till 2010 including two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, 22 American Music Awards. She was also one of the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 170 million albums, singles and videos worldwide.

She held the all-time record for the most American Music Awards of any single artist and shared the record with Michael Jackson for the most AMAs ever won in a single year with 8 wins in 1994.

Whitney's best selling album includes "Saving All My Love for You", "How Will I Know", "Greatest Love of All", "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)", "Didn't We Almost Have It All", "So Emotional" and "Where Do Broken Hearts Go", which set several world records.

Houston also enjoyed success acting in films such as 'The Bodyguard' and 'Waiting to Exhale'.

But her later career was overshadowed by substance abuse and her turbulent marriage to singer Bobby Brown, which ended in 2007. She had a daughter, Bobbi Kristina, from the marriage, which had been a tempestuous one, with allegations of domestic abuse.

According to CBS news, Beverly Hills Police Lt Mark Rosen said there were "no obvious signs of criminal intent" and that the cause of her death is being investigated.

Houston's bodyguard found her body, said Courtney Barnes, publicist for hip-hop artist Ray J, who was dating the pop diva.

Having grown up in New Jersey, she began singing in church and then in the night clubs of New York, and was a model before being signed by Arista Records.
