Former Miss World and Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on her birthday was felicitated with a civilian award by the French government for her outstanding contribution in the field of art on Thursday.
The ambassador of France to India, Francois Richier, ambassador of France to India, honoured Aishwarya with the prestigious 'Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters' at a hotel in Mumbai.
"I want to thank the French government for honouring me with the award. It's truly overwhelming. I thank you in all humility", said an overwhelming Aishwarya while receiving the award. She also thanked her family for their continuous support and expressed her gratitude towards her colleagues.
"I want to thank every professional who I have worked with and who made it possible for me to have such a glorious career," she said.
The Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters honorary award of France that is conferred to people who have made exceptional contributions in the area of arts in France and the rest of the world.
Earlier superstar Shah Rukh Khan and actress Nandita Das had also received the honour.
The entire Bachchan family, except Jaya Bachchan, were present at the event. In addition to that Nandita Das, Parmeshwar Godrej and filmmaker Pritish Nandy were also present during the celebration.
A cake cutting ceremony was also organised during the occasion as it was Aishwarya’s 39th birthday.
