Member of National Assembly (MNA) of Pakistan Sajid Ahmed has surprised his colleagues by suggesting that that the country's railways should be handed over to former Indian railway minister Laloo Prasad Yadav if government was unable to tackle it.
Sajid made his remark while parliamentary secretary for railways Noman Islam Sheikh was answering questions about the performance of the railways.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement lawmaker Ahmed suggested that Yadav must be given the responsibility of handling Pakistan railway system if the government was unable to tackle the state-run entity's numerous problems, the Nation reports.
Pakistan railways has been plagued by several problems over the past few years, including the lack of locomotives, shortage of spare parts and fuel, and cancellation of dozens of trains due to lack of financial resources, the paper said.
The Pakistan railways had received only Rs 6 billion out of a total bailout package of Rs 11 billion for 2010-2011, it added.
Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) Leader Laloo Prasad Yadav as being a Union Railways Minister of India had got several appreciations from India and abroad, and as per claim made by Laloo, Indian railway, which were earlier running in the loss, came into huge profit during his entire tenure.
