41 killed, 50 injured in suicide bomb attack in Afghanistan mosque

At least 41 people have been killed and more than 50 people have been injured in a suicide bomb attack held in Maymana, capital of Faryab province, Afghanistan on Friday.

The bomb blast took place at a mosque where worshippers had gathered for prayers to mark Eid al-Adha.

A suicide bomber who masked himself in a police uniform attacked when people were leaving the mosque.

Abdul Satar Bariz, Deputy to Provincial Governor said, "A suicide bomber targeted a mosque while people were leaving the mosque building after the Eid-ul-Adah prayers at around 9 a.m. local time (0430 GMT) Friday in Maimana city, killing 41 people and injuring 50 others".

The dead includes 23 members of the Afghan National Police (ANP).

Provincial police Chief Abdul Khaliq Aqsay was wounded in the attack as well. The wounded have been taken to provincial capital hospitals and are in critical conditions.

Eid Gah mosque is the biggest mosque in the city and thousand of people have gathered here to carry out prayers to mark Eid al-Adha on Friday.
