Sri Lankan all rounder Angelo Mathews is now Sri Lanka's new captain for T20 format for the next one year after Mahela Jayawardene's resigned following their World Cup final loss to the West Indies.
The selectors will further review Mathew's performance after one year of charge, and depending upon his performance he may be selected as the test captain too.
"We are giving Mathews a free hand to captain the T20 side for one year after which we will review his performance," Sports24 quoted chief selector Ashantha de Mel, as saying.
Mathews debut as a captain will be to lead Sri Lanka in a one-off T20 international against New Zealand in Pallekele on October 30.
Moreover, leading fast bowler of Sri Lanka Lasith Malinga has been named at the T20 vice-captain, also for a one-year term.
