Parents must let their children go out and play in the field, said Ajay Maken, the Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs on Tuesday while speaking at a seminar on 'Sports as a full-time career in India', organised at the India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi.
Addressing to the participants in the seminar and winners of Delhi-NCR inter-college basketball championship, Ajay said, "Sports Ministry is was working on an ambitious national fitness programme along with the HRD Ministry in order to test the fitness level of the students in the country."
"If this proposal is accepted, students will get extra marks in their total in school examination," he added.
For the improving the shape of the games, Maken informed, his ministry was working on setting up two new facilities, a National Sports Science Centre and a training college for sports coaches in Patiala.
He hoped to kick off these initiatives by next year.
This seminar was organized by the youth wing of Sarvottam, a national NGO.
