Assam Rifles organises medical camp in Manipur village

Motbung (Manipur), Sept 17 (ANI): Security forces deployed in the northeast have been regularly organising civic action programmes for regional development.

The Assam Rifles recently held a free medical camp here, drawing large number of people from far-flung areas of the region.

Such camps, which are held on a regular basis, are a boon to villagers of the hamlet, where medical facilities are not available.

The residents who attended the free camp appreciated the initiative and hoped that such camps would be held frequently.

Interacting with mediapersons, Seikho Kipgen, one of the residents who attended the camp, said, "Such camps are beneficial to us as our financial situation is not good, and we can't afford to go for checkups to hospitals."

Echoing similar sentiments, Phalneilam Hangsing, another villager, said, "Though I am ill, I cannot afford to go to Imphal for treatment because it is far and very expensive. So this camp is good for me."

Thirty-eight doctors of Assam Rifles participated in the daylong event that was organized in collaboration with Rotary Club of Imphal.

Patients from nearby villages also attended the camp where they were educated on basic hygiene and prevention of several diseases like cancer and AIDS.

Free medicines, prescriptions, and other necessary information on health issues were provided to the villagers.

Major General Binoy Poonnen, GOC Red Shield Division, Manipur, said such moves help in strengthening relations between the security forces and villagers.

"It is a good idea to conduct such joint venture camps, because when we conduct program with civil clubs like Rotary or Lions, it help us to establish good relations among the community and civil doctors," he said.

Such developmental initiatives by the security forces and the government have brought about a major change in the entire northeastern region. (ANI)
