Washington, May 3 (ANI): A senior aide to US Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney has reportedly said that British Prime Minister that David Cameron was 'taken for a ride' by Barack Obama when he praised the president during a recent visit to the White House.
Cameron had praised Obama, calling him "someone with moral strength, with clear reason and with fundamental decency".
Romney's adviser has, however, bitterly criticised the flattering tone of Cameron's toast to Obama at a Washington banquet in March.
According to The Telegraph, Romney's adviser on European policy complained to a newspaper that 'you don't take sides in an election year.'
The advisers was said to have voiced fears that the Prime Minister may even have "infringed" the special relationship between the US and Britain.
"It's curious. What Cameron did is ironic, seeing that a few days later Obama said he was neutral on the Falklands. Cameron was taken for a ride by Obama." the aide told the Guardian.
He said he had been called by an embarrassed British contact who said 'I don't want to talk about it [Cameron's toast]. I'm just sorry it happened."
Meanwhile, spokeswoman for the Romney campaign Andrea Saul has denied there was any tension with Downing Street.
"The statements and facts reported in the Guardian story concerning the campaign's plans and thinking are wholly inaccurate and demonstrate that whoever conveyed them has no familiarity with the campaign's policies or decision making," the paper quoted her, as saying. (ANI)
