Three killed, nine injured in van-train collision in North Philippines

Manila, May 3 (Xinhua-ANI): Three people, including a five-year- old girl, died while nine others were injured when their vehicle was hit by a train in Candelaria town in northern Philippine province of Quezon on Thursday morning, police said.

The victims were aboard a Toyota Innova van which was heading for Manila. The van was hit by a train bound for Lucena city when it was crossing a Philippine National Railways railroad tracks in Masin Sur in Candelaria town at 4:15 a.m Thursday, said a police report.

"As a result of the strong impact, damages incurred by both vehicles. Three occupants of the Toyota van died due to severe head and body injuries, while nine others, including its driver, sustained injuries to different parts of the body," the report said.

The train was allowed to proceed to a station in Lucena city with proper escorts. The driver of the train is now under the custody of the police. (ANI)
