New York, May 2 (ANI): Ryan O'Neal has apparently been through a plenty of drama while raising his children.

Three of his four children have made numerous tabloid headlines over the years because of their issues with drugs and the law.

"Were you a bad parent?" 'Today' show host Matt Lauer asked O'Neal on Tuesday.

"Looks like it, doesn't it? Sure looks like it," the New York Daily News quoted the "Love Story" actor as saying.

"I suppose I was."

The 71-year-old's son eldest son Griffin, 47, is presently in prison for a drug-related car crash last year. Investigators found that the troubled celebrity son had cocaine, marijuana, Xanax and amphetamines in his system at the time of the accident, and was sentenced to 16 months in jail.

Daughter Tatum, 48, suffered a serious drug addiction that led her to lose custody of her three children with ex John McEnroe.

And Redmond, 27, son of O'Neal and late love Farrah Fawcett, was addicted to heroin and in handcuffs when he bid final goodbyes to his dying mother almost three years ago.

Only son Patrick, 43, has managed to remain out of the spotlight.

But, O'Neal retorted insisting that he wasn't ever "trained" to be a parent, and "these aren't children ... they have to take hold of their own existences."

Also, At Fawcett's funeral in 2009, O'Neal confessed that he hit on his own estranged daughter Tatum.

"I had just put the casket in the hearse and I was watching it drive away when a beautiful blond woman comes up and embraces me," the actor told Vanity Fair at the time.

"I said to her, 'You have a drink on you? You have a car?' She said, 'Daddy, it's me - Tatum!' I was just trying to be funny with a strange Swedish woman, and it's my daughter. It's so sick," he added. (ANI)
