Melbourne, May 1 (ANI): Whitney Houston's former husband Bobby Brown has refused to take the fall for the late singer's drug-fuelled troubles that led to her sad demise, saying that he wasn't the one who got her into drugs.
Houston drowned in a hotel bathtub on February 11, with cocaine in her system, and her ex-husband Brown said he is not to blame for the singer's drug problems.
"I didn't get high before I met Whitney," News.com.au quoted Brown as telling NBC's Today in an interview.
But then Brown backtracked slightly, saying he wasn't a habitual drug user before marrying Whitney in 1992.
"I smoked weed, I drank the beer, but no, I wasn't the one that got Whitney on drugs at all," he said.
The bad boy ex-hubby said he last saw Houston, 48, two weeks before her passing and she looked great.
"She had this, this glow about her that was just, you know, incredible.
"You know, and I'm, I'm saying to myself, you know, 'She must be, she must be doing really well' because she looked really well...."
"It was just, you know, she just looked like she was in a good place," he added.
Brown claims he has been sober for seven years, though the 43-year-old was arrested on suspicion of DUI March 26 in Los Angeles. He pleaded no contest to one count of driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher and was put on probation.
The drug connection to Houston's passing was an emotional blow to Brown.
"I was hurt. I was hurt ... because, you know, me being off of narcotics for the last seven years, I felt that she was, you know, I didn't know she was struggling with it still.
"But at the same time, you know - listen, it's a hard fight. It's a hard fight to, you know, maintain sobriety that way," he said. (ANI)
