Berlin, April 29 (IANS) Schalke 04 extended Peruvian international striker Jefferson Farfan's contract until 2016, the German Bundesliga club announced during the match against Berlin at home.
It seemed Farfan was on his way out of Schalke, especially when he rejected the first contract offer.
"We have always said that we are ready to talk. We are very, very happy that it finally worked out because we always wanted to renew the contract with Jeff," Schalke manager Horst Heldt was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
The 27-year-old Farfan joined Schalke in 2008 and has scored 24 goals in 112 matches.
He has also been part of the Peruvian national squad since 2003, making 43 appearances and scoring 12 goals.
Schalke now sits in third position with 61 points, which assures it a direct UEFA Champions League spot.
