Lahore, Apr 29(ANI): U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter has said that only Afghan leadership can resolve the Afghanistan issue and added that Pakistan and the United States can only give Kabul a helping hand.
Munter was addressing at the second annual dinner of the American Business Forum at Royal Palm Golf and Country Club here.
On being asked why the U.S. was brining Afghan Taliban to Pakistan for talks, Munter stressed that the Afghanistan issue could not be resolved by keeping Afghans out of the talks.
To a question about the non-implementation of the promised Reconstruction Opportunity Zones (ROZs) in tribal areas, the ambassador said:
"I admit this is a failure."
He admitted that a misconception prevailed in Pak- US ties, which could be overcome through negotiations, people-to-people contacts and enhancing economic ties.
He said many senior Americans would be coming to Pakistan to discuss various issues, covering economic collaborations, trade relations and security concerns.
Replying to a query regarding the announcement of a bounty on Jamaat-ud- Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed, Munter said that although Pakistan media is doing a wonderful job, it had misreported on some facts in this case.
He said that under the Right to Justice Programme, it was announced that anyone who will provide information leading to the arrest of any person involved in terrorist activities in any country or provide information concerning to the United Nations declared terrorists, he would be provided with reward.
