FIFA to test 'goal-line technology' for first time in football during match

London , Sat, 28 Apr 2012 ANI

London, Apr 28(ANI): The FIFA has announced that goal-line technology would be used for the first time in a live football match during the Hampshire FA Senior Cup final between Eastleigh and AFC Totton at Southampton's stadium next month.

The Hawk-Eye system would be used during the FA Senior Cup final, whereas another system GoalRef would also probably be used in two matches in Denmark's Superliga.

"We are delighted to be testing Hawk-Eye." It is already used in tennis and cricket," The Sun quoted Hampshire FA boss Neil Cassar, as saying.

Only those testing the system, and not the match officials will be able to use the technology, which would eliminate any chance having any effect on the outcome of the games.

The International Football Association Board, the game's law-making body, is expected to decide whether to allow the technology on July 2. If agreed, it could be introduced this year. (ANI)

"that goal-line technology would be used for the first time in a live football match" - wrong. GLT was already used at the FIFA Club World Cup.
