London, April 27 (ANI): A Metropolitan Police officer in Britain has been arrested on alleged charges of racial abuse.
The officer was off-duty during the incident in Barnet, North London, Sky News reports.
The officer has been arrested and suspended amid investigations into the case by the force's Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
"The male officer was arrested on suspicion of a Section 4 Public Order Act offence (racially aggravated words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress)," a Met spokesman said.
"He is at present on police bail and has been suspended from duties pending the outcome of the criminal investigation," he added.
A number of other cases of race-related claims have been reported against the Met Police officers in the past, which are under investigation.
The cases include the case of Police Constable Alex MacFarlane, 52, who will face criminal charges after being accused of racially abusing a suspect during last summer's riots.
In another race-related case, a black firefighter, Edric Kennedy-Macfoy, claimed that he was assaulted with a Taser gun by a group of police officers because of his skin colour. (ANI)
