Mumbai, April 27 (IANS) A benchmark index for Indian equities markets was trading 22 points higher in the afternoon session Friday, led by good buying support in ICICI Bank scrips on expectations of robust earnings.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened in the positive at 17,145.39 points, was ruling at 17,152.90 points in the afternoon session, up 0.13 percent or 22.23 points from its previous close at 17,130.67 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 17,242.15 points and low of 17,134.85 points in the intra-day trade.
The wide-based 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was trading 0.07 percent down at 5,185.15 points.
The country's largest private sector lender ICICI Bank rallied 1.73 percent at Rs.856.10 on expectations of robust fourth quarter earnings.
ICICI Bank is scheduled to announce its financial results later Friday.
Other prominent Sensex gainers were: Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), up 1.57 percent at Rs.715; Hindalco Inds, up 0.99 percent at Rs.117.45; Bajaj Auto, up 0.78 percent at Rs.1,618.00; and TCS, up 0.75 percent at Rs.1,200.90.
Major Sensex losers included: DLF, down 3.03 percent at Rs.176.10; Bharti Airtel, down 1.83 percent at Rs.303.45; Coal India, down 1.78 percent at Rs.353; and SBI, down 1.68 percent at Rs.2,123.
