New Delhi/Chennai, Apr 26 (ANI): Cutting across party lines, lawmakers of various political outfits on Thursday appeared to be in favour of the government decision to recommend the name of batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar for the Rajya Sabha.

"If the name of Sachin comes up for Rajya Sabha. We are demanding that he should be given the 'Bharat Ratna' because players of such stature come once in centuries," said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Prakash Javadekar.

"It'll be nice if he is in Parliament. He'll bat and we'll bowl 'googlies' to him," said Congress leader Renuka Choudhary.

Meanwhile, Communist Party of India (Marxist) Prakash Karat termed it to be a good move, saying the government should nominate eminent persons from different walks of life in the Rajya Sabha.

"In the Rajya Sabha, there is nominations for eminent persons in various walks of life. The government should nominate such people. I think it's good that they have nominated Sachin Tendulkar, other eminent persons in different walks of life should be nominated," he told the media in Chennai.

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has reportedly written to President Pratibha Devisingh Patil on this matter. The letter is expected to be forwarded by the Home Ministry. (ANI)
