London, Apr 25(ANI): Wimbledon first round losers will get a 21 percent pay hike, according to the new pay deal agreed by world's top tennis stars like Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.
The first round failures will receive 14,500 pounds each.
Murray and fellow star players secured a 10 per cent increase in the total fund to 16.1 million pounds.
The men and women champions get an extra 50,000 pounds, taking their prize money to 1.15 million pounds each.
All England Club chairman Philip Brook explained the leading names had argued for an increase for the lower-ranked players to recognise 'the rising costs associated with professional tennis.
"In those top four players we have people of quality and integrity," The Sun quoted Brooks, as saying.
There had been reports that players were prepared to go on strike over the issue of prize money at Grand Slams but Brook denied that was ever raised. (ANI)
