UK Police arrest five men on charges of terrorism

London , Wed, 25 Apr 2012 ANI

London, April 25 (ANI): Police in UK have arrested five men on charges of terrorism after carrying out massive raids in Luton.

The men aged between 21 and 30 have been arrested on suspicion of commissioning, preparing and instigating terrorism, Sky News reports.

The arrests were part of a 'pre-planned, intelligence-led' operation by the Metropolitan Police counter-terrorism command.

The five men have been taken to a central London police station for questioning.

"Full consideration has been given to treating those arrested, and especially their families, with appropriate respect for cultural and religious identity as far as is possible," a Bedfordshire Police spokeswoman said.

Homes of all five, in Bishopscote Road, Maidenhall Road, Crawley Green Road, Cornel Close and Shaftesbury Road, are being searched for any evidence of their involvement with terrorist activities.

In recent years, Luton has emerged as a flashpoint for tensions between Muslims and the far-right. (ANI)
