London, April 25 (ANI): Football club Sheffield United has suspended reserve player Connor Brown after he posted an insulting comment about a rape victim on Twitter.
The club is probing Brown's tweets about a 19-year-old woman who was raped teammate Ched Evans, Sky News reports.
The tweet, however, has been removed.
Evans has been convicted of raping the woman and jailed for five years. He, however, is reportedly planning to appeal against the sentence.
North Wales Police has said that they were investigating the naming of the rape victim on Twitter, adding that arrests would be made soon.
Hundreds of other messages were posted on Twitter abusing the rape victim and calling for the footballer to be freed.
Police have called the people to maintain restrain and said that the law gave rape victims and other victims of serious sexual offences anonymity for life.
They have even warned the people to not publish anything about the victim's identity adding that criminal proceedings will be carried out if anyone is held. (ANI)
