Rome, April 24 (IANS/AKI) A 43-year-old mobster, considered one of the most dangerous criminals in Italy, was arrested Tuesday after more than two years on the run.
Rocco Trimboli, boss of the 'Ndrangheta mafia group, was arrested in Casignana, a town of around 800 people in southern Calabria region.
The 'Ndrangeta is said to be Italy's wealthiest and most violent mafia group that controls the European cocaine trade.
The organisation launders billions of euros of illegal profits in restaurants, hotels and resorts, according to authorities.
Trimboli had earlier been sentenced to 11 years in prison for drug trafficking and mafia association.
