London, Apr 24(ANI): Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney's father has been cleared of allegations that he was involved in a betting scam.
Anthony Barnfather, a solicitor for Rooney Senior, confirmed that the police had told him no further action would be brought against his client.
"Mr Rooney Snr has always vigorously denied the allegations and maintained his innocence throughout the investigation. He is delighted the matter has now concluded," The Sun quoted Barnfather, as saying.
Wayne Rooney Senior was arrested at his home in West Derby, Liverpool, in October, along with eight other people, including Liverpool-born Motherwell midfielder Steve Jennings, on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud.
Merseyside Police said at the time the arrests were the culmination of a joint operation with the Gambling Commission into 'suspicious betting activity'. (ANI)
