New Delhi, April 23 (IANS) US Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Jonathan Greenert began a five-day visit to India Monday to explore possibilities of bilateral cooperation between the two navies in the region.
Greenert, on his first day in the capital, met Indian Navy chief Admiral Nirmal Verma, when the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest including those relating to terrorism, piracy and other maritime security issues, according to navy officers here.
Greenert also met Indian Army chief Gen. V.K. Singh and Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal N.A.K. Browne.
During his stay in India, Greenert will also visiting naval units under the Mumbai-based Western Naval Command, the new naval base at Karwar, where India has built its naval training academy, and Goa.
He will thereafter visit the naval training command at Kochi, where he will get to see its facilities.
