Britain's air defences to prevent Olympics Games terror attack put to test

London, Sun, 22 Apr 2012 ANI

London, Apr 22 (ANI): Britain's air defences to prevent any plane suicide attack during the Olympics were put to test recently.

Snipers boarded helicopters in a three day 'shoot to kill' exercise was conducted in order to stop any explosives-laden light aircraft being flown into one of the many Olympic venues across Britain.

Security officials seeing the threat the Games can attract, devised a plan for RAF snipers be on board in helicopters to gun down rogue pilots in the restricted air zones over events.

"There is no specific threat to the Games, but we have to be ready," The Sun quoted Air Commander and an Olympic Air Security Chief, Gary Waterfall, as saying.

Besides the Olympic Stadium in London, RAF snipers would be assigned at other Olympics locations which include rowing at Eton Dorney, Bucks, cycling at Surrey and sailing at Dorset.

Under the plan devised by the Air Defence officials, pilots "on the loose" will be told to depart or land. If that is ignored, 'copter crews will show boards saying "Follow Me" or "Land Now".

Failure to obey will call for a warning round to be fired. Ultimately, the pilot will be killed with a shot to the head over open country rather than risk an event being bombed. (ANI)
