Muamba speaks for first time about his miraculous recovery

London, Sun, 22 Apr 2012 ANI

London, Apr 22(ANI): Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba has spoken for the first time about his miraculous recovery since suffering from cardiac arrest during their FA Cup quarterfinal clash against Tottenham Hotspurs at White Hart Lane.

Muamba was 'dead' for 78 minutes following his collapse but has already been discharged from hospital.

"What happened was more than a miracle. I am walking proof of the power of prayer. For 78 minutes I was dead and even if I lived I was expected to have suffered brain damage," The Telegraph quoted Muamba, as saying.

Muamba recalled the events, which led to his collapse. He said he began to fear something was seriously wrong when he started to feel dizzy and see double.

"I saw two Scott Parkers then two Luka Modrics," he said.

He also paid tribute to Dr Andrew Deaner, the cardiologist who emerged from the crowd to help him.

"He is the reason I am able to hold my baby son again and continue my life," he said.

Muamba revealed that his first words on regaining awareness in hospital were to ask for his son Joshua, three, and he said that when his son then visited him, he almost caused a medical catastrophe by pulling on the network of wires attached to his father in hospital. (ANI)
