Damascus, Apr 21 (Xinhua-ANI): An "armed terrorist group" blasted an oil pipeline on Saturday in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour, triggering off a fire at the explosion point, state- run SANA news agency reported.
"Terrorists" carried out the assault at dawn, blowing up the pipe which is related to the Furat Oil Company near Abu Hamam area in the oil-rich Deir al-Zour, according to the report.
The blast was the latest in a string of other explosions that have targeted many oil and gas pipelines across Syria since the unrest began last year.
Syrian officials have estimated losses in the energy sector at millions of U.S. dollars.
The Syrian government blames the year-long crisis in Syria on armed groups working out a foreign conspiracy.
The UN estimated that more than 9,000 people have so far been killed in the Syrian conflict, including at least 500 children, while Syria said 6,044 have died, including 2,566 soldiers and police. (Xinhua-ANI)
