Melbourne, Apr 21 (ANI): Cher, the ageing diva, is said to be selling her key to the city of Adelaide on eBay, infuriating the lord mayor who presented it to her.
Steve Condous voiced his disgust that the honour, which he presented to the 65-year-old singer at the 1990 Adelaide Grand Prix, was up for sale.
"I think that's pretty poor," News.com.au quoted him as telling The Advertiser.
"I'm disappointed. I would have thought that getting the key to a city like Adelaide would have had some value to her, but obviously it doesn't because she wouldn't have got rid of it.
"I've been given a couple of keys to cities and I felt pretty privileged to be given those.
"If she didn't want to keep it she should have returned it back to the city," he added.
The brass key and accompanying plaque is one of dozens of items being auctioned by Cher's personal consigner.
A total of 33 keys to the city of Adelaide have been handed out in the 22 years since Cher's visit.
Its recipients include the Dalai Lama, former Governor Dame Roma Mitchell, comedian Barry Humphries and cyclist Lance Armstrong.
Cher's key had attracted just one bid of 120 dollars late on Friday.
Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood said he was "exceptionally disappointed".
"I just think that it is more a reflection on her than the city of Adelaide," he said.
"It must be very embarrassing for her if she is selling it because she needs the money," he added. (ANI)
