Boxing legend Bruno leaves hospital following treatment for exhaustion

London, Apr 21(ANI): Boxing legend Frank Bruno, who was sectioned under the Mental Health Act in 2003, has left hospital following treatment for exhaustion, and has thanked his fans for their support.

Bruno was discharged from the private clinic in time to watch his first interview in a decade on Piers Morgan's Life Stories, which was screened on Friday night.

Bruno's peers have blamed the stress of appearing on the show for his latest spell in hospital.

They said he was working himself into the ground trying to get fit and healthy for a string of public appearances.

During the interview with Morgan, the former heavyweight champ revealed how his world fell apart when he quit the sport in 1996.

Bruno also spoke about his destructive split from wife Laura, which led to his deterioration and sectioning nine years ago.

He told Piers that being sectioned was 'the most shameful' moment of his life, but said fellow boxer Mike Tyson, who has had his own problems, helped him through.

"I wanted to run but there was nowhere to run. I got lovely letters, one from Mike Tyson. It was nice of him to do it," The Daily Star quoted Bruno, as saying.

In a statement last night, his agent Dave Davies said: "Frank left the medical unit today and staff were very happy with his progress. Frank's very grateful for all the good wishes he has received. "

"We're asking for the media to give Frank privacy now so he can continue with his recuperation." (ANI)
